How to set up automated texts

Automated texts send SMS from a verified toll-free number on your behalf when a rule matches.

  1. Understand the charges

Automated texts use a third-party messaging service. You agree to per-message charges before creating your first template, and you can manage credits and auto-reload from your account settings.

  2. Start from the dashboard

On the Dashboard , scroll to Twilio Phone Numbers and click Add Twilio Phone Number. You will walk through toll-free verification (TFV) required by carriers.

  3. Complete number verification

The automated text form asks for your business details, sample messages, and opt-in proof. Submit the form and wait for approval—status appears on the dashboard when the number is ready.

  4. Add a Twilio text action to a rule

Edit or create a rule , choose Send a text → Twilio text, and select your approved template. Pick who receives the text (usually the phone number found in the triggering email).

  5. Handle replies in Chats

When someone replies to your automated number, the conversation appears in Chats. You can read and respond there without opening your phone.
